Why do intelligent people praise ordinary fools like Steve Jobs, President Obama, Donald Trump, or the latest pop star, or movie star?

When God gave his law covenant to the Nation of Israel his first commandment said, "I am Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You must not have any other gods besides me. You must not make for yourself a carved image or form like anything that is in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth You must not bow down to them nor be enticed to serve them, for I, Jehovah your God, am a God who requires exclusive devotion, bringing punishment for the error of fathers upon sons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing loyal love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. EX 20:2-6

Although we are no longer under the law covenant, his words still apply. John 4:24 tells us that God is a Spirit and those worshipping him should worship with spirit and truth.

It's actually powerful psychology at work. By creating something you make it physical and can interact with it which helps cement your belief and convictions. It acts as symbolic gateways to interact with things you belief are real.

I practice psychological magic and understand that no magic is real but even when I perform the rituals I make believe it is real because it helps cement the states in your mind by interacting with it mentally, physically, emotional and spiritually.

Just because it's stupid and doesn't make sense doesn't make it useless.

Well they don't worship these but these things are used as a focal point, just how all Muslims face that big box when praying. These objects are used as focal points

People have been praying to idols since Biblical times, it is in their nature to be in control of their "god". We want to think of ourselves as better than even God, so to create a god ourselves and be in control of it makes ourselves feel better. There are all types of things that can be considered idols, not just statues, beads, etc. An idol is interpreted in the Bible as anything that takes someone away from worship of God. In Biblical times, people worshipped statues instead of God, today there are things such as crosses, beads, statues and even things that we don't consider "religious" like our phones, TVs etc - they take us away from worshipping God as well (I do consider myself one of the biggest idol worshippers, I am always on my tablet instead of reading the Bible, I have to work on that).

People with intelligence praying at all is the epitome of cognitive dissonance.

I don't bray to or worship anything although...

I do rather love and like my wife quite a bit.

themselves is one word, not two. Get it right. There is no god of any kind.
