I can't scan from Epson printer to Mac?

Update:

I know it's connected because it prints from the Mac, but I keep getting a message from the Epson that it's not connected. It won't scan to a memory card. It's connected by usb cable.

    You have to open the printer first on your mac, then on the mac click the scan button. Search the printer name in the spotlight menu to open it, plug in your printer, and scan the document
