He is insecure. I would stay far away from anybody, male or female, who enjoys putting others down. That trait doesnt change and youll never be happy with someone like that.

Because inwardly, he is secretly ashamed of himself.
He hopes that if OTHERS applaud him, this will help him like himself better.
It doesn't work that way, though.
Look .. people who do not like themselves are NOT relationship material. Until we are comfortable with ourselves, our reactions will always be selfish and we are not able TO care about anyone else.
Now that you know this, you should stop dating him. In self-protection.
