How could someone develop the fear of gold?
I'm creating a character that relies on the fear of gold to make them "whole" so to speak. But i'm having trouble trying to figure out a reason why... I wouldn't be here if I didn't really need help, so please no "Figure it out yourself", I've already tried.

Really it could be any number of things. First there are disorders that deal with sensitivity that make people extremely sensitive to touch, including clothing. I'm really not sure that a general practitioner or pediatrician would be equipped or suggest that this is the case. More than likely they would call it a phase, unless you have a physican who is familar with these disorders. Option two is one you may want to check out (research online to see if her other behaviors may match up) and that is autism. Autistic children often hate clothing and cannot tolerate being touched. Since I do not know her, her behaviors, or personality it is only a suggestion because of the sensitivity. More than likely you would have noticed something "different" about her if this were the case. Finally, it could be psychological. I would probably rule this out because it started so young. It could just be she has a personal bubble she doesn't like invaded, but the clothes thing strikes out that theory. I would start with your doc, more than likely he/she will say a phase. Press the issue if that's what you're told, ask where to go from there. I'm not sure if you would need to see a skin doc or a nerve doc. I would lean towards someone dealing with the nerves (neurologist).

Give him the opposite of the Midas touch, everything gold he touches turns to dust
