Why is the Hispanic population in America surging?

I'm not being racist here. I was having this discussion with a hispanic friend. Apparently, hispanics who are here illegally, actually don't contribute significantly to the increasing hispanic growth (as so many people think). My friend says it's simply hispanic families (those here legally and some illegally) are popping out babies like crazy. I mean they are having a BUNCH of kids, more so than whites, blacks, asians, etc. Is the reason as simple as this?

Bonus: A couple of my mexican friends also said (hypothetically) that if a place like mexico were to be more better to live in (government corruption dies down, drug cartel/violence is virtually eradicated, etc), and it just becomes a more prosperous place to live, tons (not all) of mexicans (even those who were born in america), would actually willingly move to live in the "new and improved" Mexico. Is this theory true?

people without cash are bored, boredom leads to lots of sex, however I understand a lot of them are catholic and that religion has rules about having children.

those of the same religion back in the late 1800's and early 1900's used to have 12 or more kids, however years later the government suggested we have only 1 or 2 children (enough to replace each parent) so as not to overpopulate the world, and we were stupid to listen. If we had had our own kids in America there wouldn't be room enough for others (illegals or otherwise) to come into our country.

The other reason is that they're getting lots of freebies compliments of Obama.

Frankly, I doubt very much if people would go back home if things were better, that's a fantasy. it's also a fantasy that Mexico would be new and improved, too much corruption and drug lords there.

Lack of control. In 1924 we established an immigration act that limited a maximum % of people from any one country. That was in effect for 40 years. That also gave us time to find all these people.

Again we are out of control and need something like the Immigration Act of 2016. And try to figure out where we are with illegals. All illegals.

Your friend is right about the increase in population. "White" Americans birth rate fell below replacement value some time ago.

Yes, they would go back to Mexico and they already are. Illegal immigration reached net zero several years ago, meaning that just as many people go back now as come in. There are multiple things happening in Mexico that are making it better and better, especially with American corporations moving more and more of their production to the Mexican rust belt.

But as we found after Reagan's amnesty, there aren't really that many of them that want to stay. Most of them just want the right to come here and work, then go back to their home country. It is a fallacy to think that "amnesty" would create a bunch of new American citizens. Probably the only ones who would want to stay are the Dreamers.

Well they could do that themselves in Mexico. I do not doubt your statement. I know legal Mexican business owner that want to move back to their homeland for retirement. I also respect that.

This will not make me popular on either side but we should have a policy that puts preference on Mexican products and growth in their economy rather than China. It is to our advantage to have a strong neighbor to the South just like the one to the North. It is not to our advantage to help China grow.
