You can't have one without the other. Nobody says things like you were there for me mentally. The term used is emotionally.

It could mean emotionally supportive as opposed to intellectually supportive. The difference is between feeling and reason.

"Being emotionally there for someone" is a vague term meaning something like you'll listen to their problems and offer support. "Being mentally there for someone" is a phrase you just made up AFAIK.
