Ran a stop sign today?

So I was slowing down at a stop sign and when I saw that it was clear kept going at 3mph and ran a stop sign today in garden grove, CA and I m only 17. This is my first traffic violation and I was wondering if I paid the fine and went to traffic school would my insurance go up? And how much should the fine be including the traffic school online?

Thanks!!

The first question is whether you are in a county which has a juvenile traffic court. If not, then this will be handled the same as it would be for an adult. You will be able to pay the fine (about $240), and the traffic school fee (a bit more than $50) online. You can complete traffic school online to. Traffic school avoids the DMV point and there will be no insurance consequences.

If there IS a juvenile traffic court, you will have to appear in court with a parent. The fine may be lower (it cannot be higher), and traffic school should still be available. The claim that traffic school is available only for adults is nonsense.

ADD: Sorry, I just noticed that your cite was in Garden Grove. Orange County DOES have a juvenile traffic court, so you will have to appear with a parent. But, again, the fine should be no more than $240 and traffic school should be available.

Traffic school to remove a ticket is only for adults so that option is not available for you. Running a stop sign is a serious infraction so you can expect a huge fine, your license will be suspended and points on your driving record. Since you are a minor you are covered under your parent's insurance and their premiums will increase substantially. I hope your disregard for the law was worth it.
