yes. change subjects to something else. try this. Throughout history, involvement in criminal activities has been linked to males more than females.

Drop subjects all together. Subjects would be men in a study of some kind. Apparently all you're doing is gathering data or making a global statement but not about a study anyone has done.

'Subjects; does not seem an appropriate word, in fact it is redundant.
"Throughout history, involvement in criminal activities has been linked to males."
would be sufficient

Just use the word "males," Then add this. It also means that females commit many few crimes than females do. Good luck.

You could say "men commit more crimes than women" or "the majority of criminals are male" but of course the more words the more impressive the sentence. "Male" can be a noun and you can just say "males" instead of "male subjects." What else - male humans?
