Does the Tohatsu MFS 20c Power Tilt outboard not have a reverse lock release or break away system of some sort?

My dad just recently purchased this outboard from our local shop and I cant seem to find a lock release of some sort in case of hitting an obstacle under water. I called the shop and they said is has an impact sensor with some sort of "hydraulic release" system and the the tohatsu power tilt motors don't have a manual lock release lever. I duck hunt so Am I going to have to purchase a break away plate of some sort? How good is this hydraulic release system?

Nope. Tohatsu, the same as every outboard with power trim, has an hydraulic release built into the trim system. In the event of impact, the relief valve should purge the cylinder pressure, preventing severe gearcase damage. It actually works better than the manual latch release on outboards with no power trim. Best advice, as I'm sure you are aware, is when operating in "iffy" waters, is to slow down, and look ahead.
