Flat work to improve our jumping?
As a rider I can jump around 2'6-2'9, but my horse needs work before we can progress higher than 2'6. Sometimes he's mellow around the course, but sometimes he will throw his head down and pull the reins out of my hand and race around the arena. I have been doing just low jumps (2ft) about once a week and I have been really focusing on my flat work. It's helped him improve in all aspects, but I know he can improve even more. Right now it's circles, laps at the trot/canter, diagonals but we're both getting pretty bored. Any suggestions will be greatly apprecisted

My trainer always has me do a lot of trotting over ground poles whenever I'm going to be jumping an excitable horse. I also did a lot of ground poles before I jumped a horse that was out due to minor injury for a few months and she was great.

I like to add cavaletti grids of starting with 2 poles and then up to 5 to place several strides after and before beginner elements.

Cavalettis and grids so you can release his face, while he concentrates on the lumber. Find someone who.knows how to set them help you.
