Flat work to improve our jumping?
As a rider I can jump around 2'6-2'9, but my horse needs work before we can progress higher than 2'6. Sometimes he's mellow around the course, but sometimes he will throw his head down and pull the reins out of my hand and race around the arena. I have been doing just low jumps (2ft) about once a week and I have been really focusing on my flat work. It's helped him improve in all aspects, but I know he can improve even more. Right now it's circles, laps at the trot/canter, diagonals but we're both getting pretty bored. Any suggestions will be greatly apprecisted
2 AnswersHorses6 years agoWhat are your horsey idiosyncrasies?
Mine are:
I will not share saddle pads, boots, brushes, girths, or really anything that comes in direct contact with the horses skin/coat, with another horse. You never know the last time a horse was brushed, may have rain rot that you can't see. Just yuck!
I also will not feed before I ride, even if it's been an hour.
I also do not care to stall unless it's extremely cold or they're sick/hurt. My boys are happy getting fat on grass and stretching their muscles in the pasture
8 AnswersHorses6 years agoWhat do you think of this horse?
Hes schooling 2'9-2'11 and can go higher. I would use him for hunters, possibly eventing later on, but he would be my college mount
5 AnswersHorses6 years agoMy horse "fake spooks" to throw me off?
I've owned my horse for 2 years now and he's always done this, but recently it has begun to become way more serious. We have an arena, the neighbors have recently put goats/horses/chickens right on the other side of it, unfortunately it is hidden by a small layer of trees/brush so all the horses can hear going down that side is noise and that terrified my horse for a good two weeks. He has learned now that he can act scared and "spook" to throw me off by dipping his head/shoulder and swerving. There's absolutely no way to stay on, even my trainer said she would come off if he did that to her. Going down that side of the arena I have to hold my inside reinstraight up, pull my outside and crop and leg the crud of my inside so he doesn't throw his shoulder and dip. It's not a pain thing, he's sound, he's just mean and cruel and it's absolutely frustrating because the whole ride I'm so focused on that that it's not as enjoyable. When he "spooks" I whip his butt in circles, make him work and regret it and it works the next time we pass but
The next time he tries. My trainer is working with him but she's in Germany and I really want to try some different ways to get after him and have a relaxing ride
7 AnswersHorses6 years agowhat else can I do to build muscle and burn fat?
I ride my horse very hard for an hour 3 times a week and that alone, not including brushing, getting him, barn chores burns about 300 calories because I'm jumping and he's a very hard and strong horse to ride. I also workout on the elliptical 5 days a week for 30 minutes on the set weihht loss program that has resistance and inclines that change. Right now I'm 17 and my senior year starts mid August so I'd like to be down to 120 by then, but also look toned, sexy, and defined by them. I weigh 140 right now at 5'2. I'm not fat but I'm not where I want to be and I know that I can look good. What else can I do to help me push this weight loss and goal? I eat around 1400 calories a day and I keep track of it in my fitness log app
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness6 years agoWhat was your first kiss like?
I just had mine yesterday. It was the first date with a guy a really like from work. We were talking about the color of our eyes and then it just sorta happened lol. I don't know how long it was, but i felt awkward because I had no idea what to do haha! It was sweet though because he put his hand on my neck :). I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Was yours horrible, fun, etc?
2 AnswersSingles & Dating6 years agoHow do I tell my parents I was asked out?
I'm a senior in high school (17 girl. 18 in the fall) and a guy from work I like asked me out the other day. I said yes, but the thing is that he just turned 20 and this will be my first date ever. I can read people very well and I have turned down dates before from guys that only have one thing in mind. We're going to see a movie late afternoon, I'm driving myself, and everything. I feel like I am responsible enough to date someone out of high school, but don't know how they will handle it since it's my first official date. Plus it will be very awkward haha. So how can I convince them?
2 AnswersSingles & Dating6 years agoFirst big schooling show with my horse?
It's more of a B rated show but listed as a schooling show. We are doing the 2ft hunter division which is 2ft hunters, 2ft EQ, EQ on the flat, hunters on the flat, and then another. Im 17 but never really showed. My horse can be a tad bit quick during the course and sometimes he won't get his leads, but there's only change of direction in the course. I'm schooling in the morning so he will be prepared but how can I keep my nerves down and do the best we can do?
3 AnswersHorses6 years agoI have trouble telling what lead I am on?
My horse has similar front leg strides when it comes to cantering so it's very hard for me to tell which lead he's on just looking at his shoulders. Sometimes I can feel it but sometimes I physically have to look down at his legs. What are some other ways I can check his leads? We have a show on Saturday so I need to nail this down today
7 AnswersHorses6 years agoHow much would my horse sell for?
12yr old 15hh registered BLM mustang with papers. Is currently doing 2ft hunters and has experience with jumpers, cross country, and dressage. Easy keeper on grass and a scoop of strategy when worked. No shoes needed whatsoever. Great on the trails, with kids, and is also doing gymkhana at the moment (barrels, poles, keyhole, etc..) always in the ribbons with his cute movement and personality. He is best suited for an intermediate rider because he can be a little forward. Currently doing lessons and shows with his owner.
5 AnswersHorses6 years agoMy trainer/barn manager is trying to control how I own my horse?
I just recently moved my horse to a show like barn where the trainer is the barn owner. The 2nd week I got there I was told I cannot jump unless she is at the facility, which is a problem because I ride later. I was informed that that is not a rule by at least 10 people and they can jump as long as someone is there. This is apparently only for me. I'm 17 and properly cool and warm up my horse and usually don't ride more than an hour 3 days a week. I don't jump more than 2ft and I'm not a bad rider but somehow this is only for me and the girl who came with me from my old barn with her lease horse. I also can only ride my horse 5 days a week because she wants us to give two days off. She will also bring horses into the barn if it's cold and charge pasture boarders $10 without consent. We also cannot move jumps (in also a barrel racer) so I cannot ever practice my pattern in the sand without her flipping out because she's not partial to western riders. Considering I pay board on my horse I really don't enjoy someone telling me how to own them. How can I politely tell her I don't appreciate the rule bending only for two people and no owners consent.
15 AnswersHorses6 years agoMy employer is paying me cash?
I work as a part time hostess at a local restaurant. They are going downhill fast and the actual owner cannot pay me without my check bouncing (of course with taxes taken out) so the past 3 times I have had to collect the bounce fee and my money through the manager out of the cash register. I have 4 uncashed checks totaling around $200. Is this illegal to collect my money and then quit before I work for free? I'm only 17 so I have no idea about any of this stuff

7 AnswersHorses6 years agoBesides strangles, what causes a horses lymph node under their jaw to swell "?
My horse has a swollen node, and what appears to be sweet itch or just an infection under his jaw. (Yes the vet is coming tomorrow)
2 AnswersHorses6 years agoWhat is this infection?
He is super itchy under his jaw. I went out Wednesday and it looked like he scraped it on the fence or something so I put corona ointment on it. Came back the next day and it was thick scabbed over and his nose was slighty swollen. It is now scabby on his ear and the scabs are wet and yellow, dark brown. Has a fishy odor and it hasn't bled. Where the node is swollen it is wet. I put swat fly ointment on the edges of the scabs and corona on the actual thing. He is super itchy there and doesn't like me touching it. It is not strangles, I'm calling the vet out but what is it and what can i do for it? I picked off the loose scabs
4 AnswersHorses6 years agoThe best way to deal with dramatic barn girls?
Sometimes it's frustrating. I'm in a situation where I interact with dramatic people everyday and sometimes I hear unneeded information whether it regards me or not. I've had a problem with one girl especially who acts like she likes me, but everytime I post something on fb about my horse it's critical or suspicious. Like the other day i posted a jumping picture and she replies "when was this?"
Because we are not allowed to jump without the BO there. I've backlashes about my horse about trailering when it does not concern them whatsoever. I'm trying to keep my cool but some days I need to pull my hair out! AH! I actually recently moved barns trying to get a new start with my horse and life and the annoying girl and her lease horses owner follow me over. There's no avoiding unless I want to board at a sketchy place. SUGGESTIONS, TIPS, ANYTHIng!!
8 AnswersHorses6 years agoWill I save money using cool calories or should I keep my horses diet the same?
Currently I feed 4lbs (1 and a half scoop) of purina strategy gx, as well as 2/3 cup corn oil. My horses feed bill is around $45 each month and I feel horrible for my parents (my dad complains a lot) I was wondering if I cut my horse back to just 3 pounds (generous scoop) and Give him cool calories instead of the extra grain which I think would end up saving around $7 in feed each month, but would the supplement maintain the same amount of calories as a half scoop? In nervous about trying since he's doing so well maintaining and my vet said I could possibly cut him back once the grass fully blooms. I'm just looking for some experience with it it

1 AnswerHorses6 years agoAnd I entitled to file a claim against my employer?
Several times my hours have been incorrect, I've been paid late, and today was the second time my $40 paycheck bounced. I work two days a week as a hostess at a local restaurant with one other location nearby granted I am 17yrs so idk if I am eligible because of my age to charge my employer and receive the bounce fees and also just plain illegal fees. Where can I start? I will be giving my notice asap
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics6 years agoHaving to hold my horse up while jumping?
My horse has a problem flinging himself over the jump and I have to hold his head up so he looks and actually jumps. The problem is I cannot perform the traditional light seat around a course because he will always be on the forehand. Will I be judged in hunters for immediately sitting back up and collecting him instead of holding my two point a few strides after?
