Can I rent an apartment without a job?

I'm moving to a new area for health related reasons and thus I don't have a job locked up there yet. However, I have enough money to pay rent and utilities for at least three, if not possibly four months, and there are several others going in on the house with me who do have jobs. Is there any way I could make it clear to the landlord that I have money to pay for several months and that I'm new to the area and thus have time to find a job, and would that help? Thanks in advance. Is it possible for me to rent a place under these circumstances?

Update:

So, to be clear, even if I pay three months up front, I still probably wouldn't be able to, is that correct?

No, you have to prove you have future income to pay for a year unless you want to rent a furnished short-term apartment.

any smart landlord would say , the lease is first month last month and deposit....you make it clear you do not have the required 3 times monthly rent.....you guarantee the landlord you can pay...he will say no problem....figure 400 per month rent.....then go borrow 5200 dollars and guarantee that person you will pay it back....then pay landlord rent for the whole year....you the one that sait you can guarantee payment
