When should I file Calvet?

I will be going to college soon.

my father is a navy veteran.

he wants to know when to prepare the files.

and then when they are needed

Update:

I've already read about eligibility.

From then i figured that people have gone through this before and already have the answer.

I'm not asking just random people, I'm asking under the "military" category.

WOW!!! It's incredible how uninformed you guys can be!!!!

The CalVet College fee waiver program is for an individual who:

•Has a parent who is a disabled veteran (0% or more disabled); or

    •Is a spouse who is service-connected (S/C) deceased or rated 100% S/C disabled.

•Is a child earning less than $12,119 per year (student's income, not parents').

•Attend a California Community College, California State University, or a University of California school.

    You must:

Provide proof of the student's relationship to the veteran such as a copy of a birth or marriage certificate.

To answer the original question: You must do the paperwork the same time as you apply for your school. Contact your schools veterans service office or tuition assistance office and they'll walk you through the process. it's pretty simple and basic, especially if you are already a California resident.

DO NOT need to contact the CalVet office. They will refer you to your county VA office, or will tell you as I did, to contact your chosen schools veterans service office rep.

I just read the entire Calvet website provided by the State of California. Why are you under the impression that you're eligible for your fathers benefits ?

EDIT- Did I just hear the sound of someones dream being shattered ?
