Nickname help?

I have a friend, and he has a quite unusual name. His name is Tumatauenga. Well, I m trying to come up with a friendly nickname for him because people tease him about it. I was thinking about Ted, but is that to distant from his original name? Thanks!

    Tuma is the obvious choice. Its actually better that he have a unique name, but needs to be something people can understand easily and something he can easily recognize himself. You don't want to take his identity away from him.

    I have a feeling this is a black person's name somewhere along the lines of Nigerian,Kenyan,Ghananian my apologies if im mistaken but here are the names
