Really? That makes no sense at all.
I thought Lady Liberty was a gift from France to the US originally.

In 1869, the Egyptian government wanted to build a lighthouse for the Suez Canal. The French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi had developed an enthusiasm for large-scale monuments and sculptors, and he proposed for the lighthouse a huge statue of a robed Muslim woman holding a torch.
Later, he became the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty, and much of the earlier design became the basis of the project.

Odd that they would claim such a thing about iconic lady liberty when there is so little liberty in their countries and societies.
