    Let A = the number of students in the afternoon

    Let M = the number of students in the morning

    A = M + 8

    A + M = 56

    Combine the two equations:

    (M + 8) + M = 56

    Reduce:

    2M + 8 = 56

    2M = 48

    M = 24

    Plug the value of M back into the first equation to get the value of A

    A = M + 8

    A = 24 + 8

    A = 32

    a = m+8

    a+m = 56

    substitution

    (m+8)+m = 56

    m = 24

    a = m+8 = 32

    24 students in the morning class and 32 in the afternoon class, I done 56 divided by two is 28 and take away 4 from that to get 24 but add 4 to 28 to get 32 as it gives you the 8 student difference. Hope this helped c:

    56 - 8 = 48 then 48/2 = 24, so the morning class has 24 students and the afternoon class has 32 students.
