Any former Arachnophobes here?

Well in short i am deadly afraid of spiders, mortified is the word i would use.

I was just wondering how to conquer the fear of it because i have tried holding one before and staring at them but it just makes the fear even worse.

I suppose i am asking this now because i just killed one but i can't shake off the feeling that they are crawling on me and i am literally shaking.

It's pathetic i know.

I never was afraid of spiders, but my familiarity with them have helped a number of people overcome this fear.

Being an animal phobia, two main ways to deal with it.

The CBT therapy with a clinical psychologist that specializes in animal phobias.

Here, the downside is a number of people fear the though of therapy just as bad.

If you really want to overcome this, the DIY method can be effective. this takes additional understanding of your fear and how to cope.and would mean trusting me to begin with.

Rather than rehash old text, you might read my answers to the following. Most helpful if you follow all the links and a plus if you can at least watch exemplary videos:

This is not something you will turn off like a light switch, but rest assured, overcoming this will feel like a 6000 pound gorilla of your back. You might even wonder how you feared these fascinating critters in the first place.

Learning to control your panic is not without anxiety. Determination and will power are a key

If this helps, even a little, it is a start.

    Godspeed.

PS: Anything this real to you is certainly not pathetic. Pathetic is not doing anything about it.

It's not pathetic, it's a very common phobia. One way to get over any phobia is by using systematic desensitization. The following link is very good and uses this technique.

Nope. There are none. Everyone is afraid of spiders and all things arthropod and that make one jump with surprise.

    It's hardwired in the brain.
