Is it okay to have a non green Christmas tree?

When I was a little girl, I remember one time having a silver colored tree. This year I want to have a silver colored tree in my house but I have been getting some not so positive feedback on my sliver tree idea. Some people (most) in my circle say my tree should be green! I'm kind of embarrassed by this. What do you complete strangers think about it?

There is nothing wrong with a Christmas tree that is not green, but I think that green is the best color for a Christmas tree. It's all about personal preference.

It's a matter pf personal taste. Get whatever you want. I remember the silver trees were a big fad in the late 1950's and early 1960's when I was a kid. There were some problems for a while with them being electrically conductive and a shock hazard because they were made of aluminum, but the modern ones are safe. Trees in the forest in the winter can look silvery white when covered with snow and ice, so it is just as "natural" as an artificial green tree. If you like it, who cares what others think? I have seen red and blue trees and even a black one.

    Hello Joygoround,

The type and colour of Christmas tree is a personal choice.

It is you and presumably your family who will enjoy it not the people you asked.

If you live within a family I would tell them that you would like a silver tree instead of the green and ask them for their opinion. To be honest I would go with the majority even if they vote for a green one.

If you live alone and want a silver tree don t worry about what others think get one and enjoy it.

Tell those who are giving you negative feedback that in the cold countries firs would not be green because they are likely to be covered in snow.

Have yourself a great Christmas, whatever colour tree you decide on.

Silver is similar to flocked. We always had real trees up until about three or four years ago. We recently decided that we missed our flocked trees from the early 90s. This year is our last green tree. We are going back to flocked - mostly white with only bits of green showing through. It represents one covered in snow. There is nothing wrong with a silver tree. If you like it, go for it. Others have opinions on what they like, not what you like.

When I was young and my dad would show the old 8mm films of past Christmases, one year they had a white Christmas tree that was spectacular. They painted a green one so it was a real tree. For silver are you remembering those metal trees from days of old. Don't let other people outline how you think and put you in a box so you have to do it their way. Have the tree you desire.

I bet your silver colored Christmas tree could be totally awesome! As with any tree, I'd pick a color scheme, or theme, and then get lights, garland, and ornaments to match or coordinate. For instance, I'm thinking solid blue or solid white lights might look nice with blue, white, and silver accessories. You may not easily find garland in silver or blue, so consider going to a fabric or crafts store and use regular ribbon. Sometimes one has to think outside the box to get real impact when decorating. And besides, you have fond memories of a silver tree - that is the most important thing. Go for it. I bet you make it beautiful.

What you want is your choice. Just for kicks, go and look at their "green" tree and see how much green is actually visible. Most bury their "green" with silver tinsel, so many ornaments and other hanging do-dads and such that you can not see the tree. Do the opposite. Get your silver tree and hang some green lights in strategic places, so that parts of some branches will look green! Now everyone is happy!

Personally, I like having a green tree, but it's entirely up to you. If you prefer a silver tree, go with a silver tree.

If you went and bought a tree at a tree farm and sprayed it silver, that would be weird, indeed.

However, buying a FAKE tree opens up a world of possibilities. One being, a silver tree.

Splendid idea. Do not second guess yourself. Merry Christmas.

Nope. The Christmas Tree Police will arrest you and Santa will skip your house if you don't have a green tree.
