Free PDF editor that lets me track changes?

I feel really dumb, but I got a new computer with no PDF software on it, and I downloaded Adobe, but it won't let me edit in the free version.

I used to have something where I would enable annotations and then I could edit it like it was a word document (NOT leave notes on the side), and it would add in carets and cross-outs and whatnot, so I could type naturally. I know PDF Xchange kind of does this, but I need to be able to edit the text as I type, rather than highlighting it and then specifically clicking, say, "Strikethrough," and then clicking a box to add text. It used to be that backspace would add the strikethrough for me.

Did that make sense?

there is no software which is free and supports edit PDF, if you want to use the powerful function, you got to pay for it. Adobe Acrobat is great for edit the PDF, input words, change the image etc..
