  • Alternative to Smoothdraw for Windows 10?

I am a major fan of Smoothdraw, but now that I have a Windows 10 computer I can't use it. I'm looking for a similar free art program that definitely has:

    layers

    pressure sensitivity

Anyone know of anything good that runs on 10? Or, on the other hand, is there a program to run a Windows 7/8 program on 10? I am not willing to uninstall 10.

    Thanks!

  • What do you make of this relationship? Just infatuation?

I'm not sure what to think. I've known this guy for about 6 months via working in the same office, so we'd chit chat every day. Then after the 6 months he asks me out. He'd had an inkling for about a year that his gf would break up with him (and she did) which made him happy b/c then he could see me. He was just too timid to end it himself.

So I go out with him, it's nice, I agree to meet up again. I've always thought he was a great person and thought why not, let's see where this goes. Third date, he walks me to my car and admits that he likes me. We chat throughout the day via facebook but not constantly (probably 10-minute spurts a few times a day). He often sends lovey emojis and says things like "Oh, had I known you were in town I would have invited you over today!" He had invited friends over but was willing to see me as well. I told him it's all right to hang out with your friends!

I feel like he's moving quickly, like wanting to be with me all the time, but he's just not the manipulative type. In fact, he's timid and not confident. So I'm more concerned that he's stuck deep in post-breakup infatuation (even though he was happy to be broken up with and saw it coming) and just can't tell that's where he is. And I don't want him to crash and burn later when he comes down from the high, but I DO want to stick with this and see where it goes.

    What do I do?

  • Free PDF editor that lets me track changes?

I feel really dumb, but I got a new computer with no PDF software on it, and I downloaded Adobe, but it won't let me edit in the free version.

I used to have something where I would enable annotations and then I could edit it like it was a word document (NOT leave notes on the side), and it would add in carets and cross-outs and whatnot, so I could type naturally. I know PDF Xchange kind of does this, but I need to be able to edit the text as I type, rather than highlighting it and then specifically clicking, say, "Strikethrough," and then clicking a box to add text. It used to be that backspace would add the strikethrough for me.

    Did that make sense?

  • Did the glaze on my ceramic bowl melt in the microwave?

So I was cooking, and in order to create a small table in the microwave, I flipped a bowl that I've microwaved for years upside down so that I could use its bottom as a table. When I opened the microwave 3 minutes later, there was a small amount of strong, sweet, almost pleasant-smelling smoke and some sizzling that was not the food.

There seemed to be something like candlewax and on the microwave turntable, and the bowl has small distortions, tiny like fingerprints on a piece of tape.

Did the glaze on the bowl (which is REALLY old -- we're talking they were my grandma's) melt? I've microwaved it lots before, but maybe flipping it and not letting steam out did it. If so, is eating the food cooked in the microwave dangerous?

  • What s a viable lower-end cost for a 2015 Chevy Sonic base model?

I ll preface this by saying maybe I m crazy. I ve never bought a new car before, but I have lived in countries where bartering is big. Maybe that s why I m thinking like this.

I m looking at buying a new 2015 Sonic (though would also gladly consider a 2014 if it were new) with just the bare minimum as far as bells and whistles. I saw somewhere that the invoice was $13,888. How reasonable is it to ask for $12,000 before rebates? If not $12,000, how far can I expect to drop pre-rebate?

The goal here, in an ideal world, is to drop the invoice to 12, then cash in on a $2000 cash advance rebate and a $1000 recent grad rebate. Maybe I m completely insane.

Does this dress match this blazer?

I'm fashion-challenged and don't know if this works. The blazer just a tad more brown than it appears. It s greyish-brown.

If it does work, what color shoes? Not black, right? Maybe black?

  • Why can't I download MH4U dlc onto my 3DS? I can't find it!?

I seriously don't know why this is so hard. Monster Hunter 4 U came out with DLC today and I can't freaking find it in the eShop. Am I looking in the wrong place? Where should it be?

  • Good card game for people to play with nothing but grunts?

So long story short, I'm running a research experiment where people will be together for an hour communicating in nothing but grunts (I use "communicating" lightly).

I need to them to play a game that requires them to communicate but does not require English, and prevents them from just pointing to words instead of vocalizing. I was thinking like Uno or some other card game, but they could do that mostly without words. And charades is not good, because the people answering must also be grunting.

  • How to add an additional line after every paragraph in Microsoft Word?

There's got to be a way I can do "find and replace" or something. But if I've got a paragraph, you know how when you make a new paragraph the two paragraphs have some empty space between them? I want to add another "Enter" into that space between every single paragraph in the document. I don't want to do it manually by hitting Enter after every paragraph (it's multiple hundreds of pages). Is there a way?

  • Low disk space when creating zipped folder?

I m trying to move about 300 video files into a zipped folder in preparation for emailing them. However, the operation always fails because of low disk space (I assume because I m asking a lot of the system).

I regularly run disk cleanups and whatnot, so what do I do to get those videos zipped? Or if you have another solution for sending them via email, let me know.

    Thanks!

  • How do people make these designs?

I see these designs a lot of places, and I think they're beautiful, but how do people make them? I feel like they don't just sit there and draw them line by line. Is there a program?

(And I don't mean vector pictures in general, I mean just these wavy line pictures).

  • Can I send a postcard from Japan to a PO box in the UK?

I don't know if you're allowed to send things like that to a PO box, or if something about mail from Japan to the UK would make it not possible or super expensive.

  • Elizabeth from Gintama -- good guy or bad guy?

I haven't seen Gintama, and I don't have time to watch it all right at this very moment (am going to start soon though!), though for a small project I need some info about Elizabeth. I understand the story arc -- coming to check out planet earth to try to take it over. But does the series make it clear whether or not Elizabeth has any interest in that? I know there is at least one other penguin/duck character that no longer wants to be part of the spy mission to earth.

  • How many teaspoons of pus come out of your face after a lifetime of acne?

Provide your method for figuring it out. Assume:

    1. A "lifetime" is 86 years.

    2. Of that, you have had significant (severe or cystic) acne since age 11.

    3. You pop your pimples instead of letting them go down on their own.

    4. Your acne is mostly restricted to your face.

We can't get extremely accurate measures, of course, but let's just see what we figure out!

  • Help me write a formal Japanese email?

So although I can speak Japanese fairly well, my keigo is, unfortunately, a little dismal. I am compiling a documentary of sorts in Japan for the next few months, and I'm writing emails to see if I can secure some interviews. Would you please look at my replies and make sure they are proper keigo and that the sentence structure is good?

The email I received was asked if I had a budget to dedicate to the interview. I want to reply: "Thanks for the email. I have a budget, but since my college is small, so is my budget. I am planning to see the performance at Gion Corner, but aside from that I can only pay 2000 or 3000 yen. I'm sorry -- I know it's not much. My Japanese is not fluent, but I can ask my questions in Japanese if that is more convenient for you."

So that is the first one. The second email (from another place) just asked me when and what time I would show up, and I want to say "I can arrive whenever is convenient for you. I think that the end of September or beginning of October would be best." For some reason, I'm having a hard time formulating that in Japanese. In addition to checking my Japanese above, would you be so kind as to translate that for me?

Thanks so much for help, whoever decides to actually read all this! :)

  • Will slightly oversized bag be a problem on the return flight?

So I'm flying Japan Airlines to Tokyo, and their baggage restrictions are 203cm (approx 80 in). I'm totally good with that. Then when I return, I'll hit customs in Chicago and switch from Japan Airlines to American Airlines. Their checked bag restriction is tighter -- 62 linear inches.

My bag is 63.5 linear inches. I'm guessing my odds of going unnoticed are pretty good, even though the bag bulges a bit in the front (I have a coat in there). However, in my previous flying experience, reclaiming a bag (in Chicago, in this case) is more of a grab-and-hand-off rather than a true check in, so my bag probably won't cause a problem, right?

I don't have a luggage scale at home, but I do believe I'm good with the weight limit. If not, I'll repack at the counter. I'd only have to move a thing or two. What do you think?

Is this an acceptable omiyage (souvenir) for a Japanese person, or would it be strange to give?

So I'm going to Japan again, and I'm left wondering what sorts of gifts I should bring to give to any Japanese people I stay with. I'll be doing at least one home stay, but I don't know anything about it or about any other people I might want to give gifts to. That leaves me to be creative in my gift planning, I guess.

I make medieval armor, and I was wondering if making small charms from chainmail would be a good gift? I thought if it was handmade, it would be nice, and I am fluent enough in Japanese to describe to them what it is and how I made it. Or would that be a strange gift to give?

I've uploaded an example of something like what I might make, and I put some other links too for more examples, only it would be all silver.

  • How would losing your memory affect your character, if at all?

I think most of us are familiar with those stories (they usually turn out to be love stories, don't they?) where someone somehow loses their memory, then they basically start life over in a new environment from that point on. For example, if someone lost their memory, woke up in a street alley, and was taken in by a cute little old lady, from that point on they'd probably basically be family with that little old lady and just start living life like normal (with or without the desire to figure out what happened).

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that they just choose to be like, "Yeah, whatev" and start living life like normal. Would you expect them to develop roughly the same personality, likes and dislikes, and hobbies?

In essence, the question boils down to whether or not these traits (personality, preferences, hobbies, etc) are inherent or learned, or some of both. I'm not entirely sure that the situation I described could actually happen, but I suppose that's not so much the point. :)

  • Training bangs with only bobby pins?

So I went to get my hair cut, and I do NOT use any products. That's my whole deal. No blow dry, no hair spray, nothing. Normally my hairdresser has no problem with that, and I let her do what she thinks is cute. This time, she gave me a style that looks better with a side part.

My grandma used to run a sharp comb down the middle of my head every day for years, so I have a pretty ingrained middle part. I'm trying to get just a slight side part (maybe an inch off center), and I've been pinning it with bobby pins. The part itself seems to be staying in place, but the hair in this "sweep" keeps creeping further and further toward the middle of my face. Like it's not sweeping any more. I just want it out of my eyes.

If I keep bobby pinning it after my shower and sleeping with it that way, will it start staying up by my eyebrow? How long do you think that will take? I'm not buying any products, and I don't have a hair dryer, so it's bobby pin or bust.
