Will slightly oversized bag be a problem on the return flight?

So I'm flying Japan Airlines to Tokyo, and their baggage restrictions are 203cm (approx 80 in). I'm totally good with that. Then when I return, I'll hit customs in Chicago and switch from Japan Airlines to American Airlines. Their checked bag restriction is tighter -- 62 linear inches.

My bag is 63.5 linear inches. I'm guessing my odds of going unnoticed are pretty good, even though the bag bulges a bit in the front (I have a coat in there). However, in my previous flying experience, reclaiming a bag (in Chicago, in this case) is more of a grab-and-hand-off rather than a true check in, so my bag probably won't cause a problem, right?

I don't have a luggage scale at home, but I do believe I'm good with the weight limit. If not, I'll repack at the counter. I'd only have to move a thing or two. What do you think?

A little over an inch difference won't matter when it comes to boarding American Airlines. But airlines are much stricter with overweight luggage. BTW you will have to check in for your AA flight, it is a true check in after clearing customs and transferring to domestic flight.
