When driving at night. Oncoming headlights look like long, stretchy, starry beams. Is there a name to this phenomena or an eye condition?

When driving in the fast-lane(far left) the oncoming headlights have long, emitting beams coming from them, like a star. Not sure how to describe this?

I don't have particularly bad eye-sight. I do have glasses but only wore them during lectures while in college and at night when I drive. During the daytime, my eye-sight is decent enough to not wear them. I still see the long, distracting beams at night regardless of whether I have my glasses on or not.

Update:

Note: I actually noticed that if I open my eyes really wide, I can reduce this glare phenomena. But, of course it is uncomfortable and tiring to do this for an extended period of time.

Your eyes are a little bit off due to a condition called astigmatism. This happens when your lens is a little off center or your eyeball isn't ideally round. The image of the object you see does not quite pass through the lens right and the image does not hit your optic nerve as a single ray of light. Thus, you see divergent images: especially with lights at night.
