When drinking alcohol, I have trouble breathing but it goes away?
Beginning sometime last year, almost every time I drink alcohol I experience some onset trouble breathing/wheezing. It could be the first can/shot of alcohol or just the neck of a beer bottle. It usually lasts maybe 20 minutes to an hour but eventually goes away. At which point, I'm free to drink several beers/drinks with no abnormal effects nor trouble breathing.
Has anyone experienced this or have an idea what it is? I'm 30. Used to drink almost every weekend.
2 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits3 years agoWhy is minimum wage so insufficient today compared to the past?
People used to have the ability to live comfortably on blue collar jobs. Why have living costs outpaced wages by so much? Is it the added costs of today? Phones, internet, cable TV, Technology, etc? What's caused inflation? Why has the price of college skyrocketed?
Tuition at my Alma mater in 2005 was $7k per year. Tuition will be $18k per year by 2018.
I live in Los Angeles where people are demanding a $15 minimum wage but what good will it do? If prices increase and jobs are lost, aren't they still in the same position or worse than before? Doesn't this create another class gap between min-wage workers and min-wage workers who lost their jobs? Shouldn't we be trying to solve the root of the problem, inflation? To me, the min-wage hike is just a "feel-good-pseudo-bandaid fix", is it not?
What are your thoughts?
16 AnswersPolitics5 years agoWhen driving at night. Oncoming headlights look like long, stretchy, starry beams. Is there a name to this phenomena or an eye condition?
When driving in the fast-lane(far left) the oncoming headlights have long, emitting beams coming from them, like a star. Not sure how to describe this?
I don't have particularly bad eye-sight. I do have glasses but only wore them during lectures while in college and at night when I drive. During the daytime, my eye-sight is decent enough to not wear them. I still see the long, distracting beams at night regardless of whether I have my glasses on or not.
1 AnswerOptical5 years agoWill Walmart price match Amazon price with receipt only or must I return first?
I purchased a 20th Anniversary PS4 controller from Walmart 2 days ago but Amazon has the same thing for $15 less. I know Walmart will price match but do I have to return it first or is the receipt enough?
1 AnswerCorporations5 years agoAutomatic Transmissions: Tiptronic? Dual Clutch: DCT, PDK?
I've always preferred my cars in the flavor of manual transmission but I would like to know the difference between the Tiptronic, Dual Clutch, CVT.
I'm in the market for a fun crossover and test drove the Porsche Macan S and Audi Q3/SQ5 Quattro yesterday. The Macan had the PDK, I'm assuming this is what Porsche calls their Dual Clutch system. The Audi came with the Tiptronic. Neither of these cars have a CVT but how does the CVT compare to the two former? How do the Tiptronic and PDK compare to one another?
Thanks for the information.
2 AnswersAudi6 years agoWhere is a relatively safe and affordable place to live in the Los Angeles area?
I work in LA and am looking to buy a house/condo. I'm a Socal native and I grew up in the Chino Hills/Diamond Bar area so that is kind of my baseline for relative safety. But, we are talking about LA so I'm open to lowering my standards a bit. I've lived/rented in Westwood and Culver City when I was out there for college but buying in those areas are way out of budget. As a Socal native I'm familiar with the typical bad areas but what about places like Bell Gardens, Whittier, etc? Of course I could get much more in let's say Chino Hills than what you'd pay for on the West side but I wouldn't want that kind of commute long term.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
3 AnswersLos Angeles6 years agoIs it safe to wire a hardwired lamp to an extension cord?
I bought a small spotlamp fixture from the electrical aisle at my local Lowe's. The fixture has a threade- end, opposite of the bulb socket. I have the threaded-end screwed into a 1" to 1/2" threaded PVC elbow.
I soldered, shrink tubed, and electrical taped the hot and neutral wires to the corresponding wires in an extension cord which I cut the female-end off.
A lot of people seem to do this but I'm wondering how safe it is. I have this plugged into a power strip, hanging over a fish tank. Thanks!
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs6 years agoDo I have to file income tax this year?
This year will be my first time filing income taxes (If I have to file).
I graduated from college last June 2014' and started working in November 2014. I made less than 10k in those 2 months of 2014.
I also have a 1098t form through the university. I received scholarships and financial aid and I've been paying my student loan since November.
I'm single, independent and have no dependents.
Do I have to file for taxes this year?
Thank you!
3 AnswersUnited States6 years agoRapala Plug lures for a beginner?
Hello. I'm a beginner fisher and was looking into purchasing a Rapala lure. However, there are so many types of Rapala lures and not to mention colors and designs. I will mostly be freshwater lake fishing for trout, bass, carp, crappie and blue gill. Many of the Rapala lures are classified by how deep they dive. Which would be a good depth for catching the type of fish that I mentioned? Which colors/designs do they types of fish tend to bite? Thanks for your help!
1 AnswerFishing7 years agoWindow tint: How dark?
I'm going to get my windows tinted because I park my car outside and I don't want the leather to get damaged. However, I don't want to not be able to see out of the rear window at night. So how dark should I get them tinted? My last car actually came with window tint and it was the perfect darkness but I didn't know what it was. Thanks!
3 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoHow bad is it to stall a manual transmission car?
5 years ago when I bought my first manual car I promised my gf that I would teach her how to drive it. Well, I've postponed and lagged it for this long and mainly because I didn't want her to stall my brand new car.
Now I just bought another car, a much nicer car, a BMW and she is now holding me to my promise. So how bad is it for the car if she stalls it several times in a row? The car has a much stiffer clutch and accelerator so it's actually harder to learn on than my previous car. Any long term damage from stalling it a couple times?
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoMINI and BMW owners. Which cost more to maintain?
I'm about to buy either a MINI Cooper S or a BMW 3-series sedan. I know maintenance is going to be quite expensive for either since they are technically BMW. I know it's going to be nothing like my Honda which has needed nothing but oil changes for the past 5 years.
To the MINI and/or BMW owners out there, with the cost of the vehicle aside, which costs more to maintain annually? What does the maintenance schedule look like for those cars? Does the BMW maintenance cost more but is less frequent? Does the MINI's maintenance cost less but requires maintenance more frequently? Thank you!
2 AnswersBMW8 years agoHow long does a total loss insurance claim take?
Hi. I was in an accident last Tuesday, so 9 days ago. Yesterday it was determined that my car was a total loss. I'm not at fault for the accident so how long will it take for the other parties insurance to pay me for my vehicle? I know that trying to get insurance companies to pay up can be like pulling teeth but they are paying for my current rental so wouldn't they lose more money if they lag the payment? How long does it usually take? Thank you.
3 AnswersInsurance8 years agoAre European cars that are 5+ years old, more likely to be declared salvage in an accident?
I have heard that European cars depreciate in value quite fast, and due to high repair costs, are they more likely to be declared salvage in an accident?
4 AnswersBuying & Selling8 years agoLooking into buying a used Mini Cooper S 1st Gen(R53) or 2nd Gen(R56). Anything I should know?
I was wondering if any Mini owners could give me some advice.
I got into a car accident earlier this week and am afraid that the car may be a total loss. It was a 2008 Honda Fit, with coilovers, rear sway bar, front and rear strut bars, wheels, tires, your basic bolt-ons, short shifter, and other fun JDM bits and pieces. So it was a fun little car to drive. Not fast, but had lots of fun.
The car had only 47k miles on it and IF it's a total loss I'm expecting to get roughly $8-$9,9XX from insurance. I've looked into the Cooper S' that are available at that price range and have seen 1st and 2nd Gens available with 50-70k+ miles on them.
In your experience, are there any Gen specific issues to look for in the 1st or 2nd Gen Cooper S? Issues with the supercharger, issues with the turbo? What is considered "high mileage" for a Cooper S? IMO, mileage for a Japanese auto compared to a European auto is similar to age comparison between a human and a dog(figuratively speaking). At 47k miles on my Honda, I have not needed to do any major maintenance. Just synthetic oil every 5k miles and had the brake pads replaced once(the car didn't even squeak at that time). Have never had to call road-side assistance or anything like that. Can I expect the same level of reliability from a Mini?
What kind of maintenance have you guys had to do and at what mileage? Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you!
5 AnswersOther - Car Makes8 years agoIssue with car alarm? Remote will unlock/disarm and arm but won't lock the car.?
I have a Python alarm/keyless-entry system installed on my car. I had installed a set of fog lights on my car and since then, the alarm remote can unlock/disarm the car but it can't lock the car, it will only arm the alarm.
I checked the power lock fuse but its fine, which would make sense because I can lock and unlock all the doors with the switch on the door panel.
So now when I leave my car, I have to press the lock button on my door panel, than press the remote to arm the alarm. Again, there are no issues with the remote unlocking/disarming the car.
It's also not an issue with the remote. I've tried both of them and the car still does the same. Is my Python system salvageable or do I need a new one? What went wrong? Thank you.
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoWhat kind of "Certificate of Insurance" do I need.?
Hi. I just found a new apartment and in the lease contract there is something about a "Section 1940.5" of the California Civil Code. The code basically says that if I have a waterbed or fish tank that is over 5 gallons I need to provide the landlord with a "certificate of Insurance" in the amount of $100,000. What kind of insurance would I be looking for to cover this? I have a 18 gallon fish tank that I would like to keep. Thank you!

My mother just got really into gardening and I would like to get her a gardening magazine subscription as a gift. I know nothing about gardening or gardening magazines and was wondering if anyone could recommend some. I would like to get her a magazine that has a lot of "how-to" type of articles since she is still trying to learn at the moment. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
5 AnswersGarden & Landscape8 years agoIs it cheaper to buy a phone full price or with contract?
Hi. I've heard that buying a phone full price(w/o contract) is actually cheaper than buying a phone WITH contract.
What I've heard is that when you buy the phone at the subsidized, discounted price with contract, there are actually more hidden fees on the monthly payments. So over the 2 years of the contract, you actually pay more for the phone than buying the phone for full price(w/o contract).
My contract with Tmobile is about to end and I do plan on renewing a 2 year contract. The S4 can be had for 150 with contract, and can be had for about 600 without contract. So if I buy the phone for 600 elsewhere and sign a new 2 year contract with Tmobile, without getting a phone through Tmobile, will the total cost over the 2-year contract be lower? Can someone please shed some light on this? Thank you.
