A name for an older character?

I m trying to name the father of a character in my book. He s about middle aged. All I can think of is "John" but that name is bland. It should go with the last name "Black".

It s a vampire novel but I want a common name, not something crazy

    Then choose anything. Names don't matter. There are literally books and movies with unnamed characters, because it really doesn't matter.
