Why is coming up with a really specific label regarding gender identity so important to some people?

I'm finding it confusing how it seems like just when I figure out what the words are there are a whole list of new genders, I mean, are we gonna keep hairsplitting identities forever? Does any of it actually mean anything anymore if there are hundreds of genders? I'm not trying to offend but I think it's getting more and more difficult to even communicate what any of this means to most people.

Gender identity is a core aspect of who you are as a human being, that's why. So when your gender identity doesn't match what other perceive you to be it can cause major problems.

EDIT: I should mention this isn't a new issue, transsexual people have been around since the dawn of time. It's just over the last 65+ years that they could access medical treatment to help them be their true selves.

    A primer on transsexualism:

Different people hold value on different things in their life. It's unimportant to you because you've never had any issues with it. Like someone who recovered from a serious illness would value their life a lot more.
