Does everyone agree this is the only way to really do gun control?

Short of an outright ban on all guns and rifles, which will NEVER happen in America, this is the best you can do:

1. Require that anything that can shoot be registered to the owner via serial number.

2. All sales require a criminal and a mental background check. Pychiatrists must submit all names of anyone who would be dangerous with a gun to a main database.

2. If you want to sell your registered gun, you must take the buyer to a gun dealer, have the background check (including mental) done on the buyer, then transfer the registery to them.

3. If you are caught with an unregistered gun, it is a mandatory 20 year sentence.

This will slightly decrease criminals from having guns due to fear of the 20 years.

It will cut down on mentally handicapped people buying guns.

Anything less then this IS WORTHLESS.

    4. Never ever ever seek counseling for any reason. Don't call a suicide prevention hotline, a child abuse prevention hotline, or seek 'anonymous' help online. NOTHING is anonymous. If you do you will never be able to own guns.

    Happy now?

There are too many ways in the plan for the government to abuse it. How do you say someone is mentally unfit? If they've ever been on antidepressants, for example? And how many extra prisons do you think Congress will let you build to keep all those people in jail for 20 years? Also, registering guns to owners just makes it easier for the government to illegally confiscate guns at a later date.

Any gun purchased from an individual or gun shop that conducts a Federal background check (which takes all of twenty minutes!) is ALREADY registered to the owner via serial number....have you never actually PURCHASED a gun?

The problem is private and gun show sales where NO check is required....

No. The door is wide open for abuse.

Let's say someone you love deeply dies in an accident and you have a nervous breakdown. Once you recover from it you will find yourself on the banned list. Likely for life.

Meanwhile some crazyassed criminal is still armed.

Or I could get on the bad side of some public official. Maybe the BLM in Oregon. Next thing you know I'm on the banned list.

The cost to obtain a licenses will jump up into the thousands while libs are complaining the cost of bus ticket to get a voter ID, is too expensive. Both are rights given to us by the constitution.

    Registered Guns=Confiscated Guns

They registered all the Assault Rifles in California.

They swore they would never use the list to confiscate them

The next year, they sent me a letter ordering me to turn in my Armalite AR-180 Assault rifle or face criminal prosecution.

The idea that civil rights can be denied to a citizen based on the speculations and prejudices of some whacky left wing psychiatrist is about as Orwellian as you can get.

    3. If you are a convicted criminal, caught with a gun, it is a mandatory 20 year sentence. This will decrease criminals because they will be locked up for 20 years.

    FIXED.

Source(s): We could also 'go back' to the pre 1950s and 1960s state hospital, involuntary commitment for the violently insane and tell the ACLU to 'play in the traffic...And vetting VISAs for ISIS mail order brides might help

Horrible idea which will keep people from seeking mental health and the mental health system is already filled with corrupt doctors willing to sell out for profit.

i don't think any criminals will follow that.

we should have a year long waiting period before you get a gun.

and at the end of the year you don't get the gun.
