Angelfish with South American Cichlids?

I have a 75g tank with a young female jack Dempsey, a jewel cichlid, and a pleco. I would like to add some Angelfish and upon doing research I've found that they are South American cichlids like the JD (the jewel is African but they get along) and so I figured the angles might be able to be added? I know they like groups so how many should I add? Will they be stressed their whole lives?

Angelfish may be South American cichlids, but that does not mean they can live peacefully with other South American cichlids. Angels (like Discus fish) are much more laid back than other cichlids and honestly do better in a community setup rather than in a semi-aggressive tank or a cichlid tank. In fact, as long as the tetras aren't so small they will get eaten or aren't one of the fin-nipper species, Angels do fine with such fish as tetras, guppies and platys. They need to be around calm fish and tend to get stressed if there is too much activity in the tank.

Your jewel and Jack Dempsey cichlids are some of the meanest fish in the aquarium trade. Add angelfish to the aquarium, and they wont last a day before your much meaner fish kill them.

Angels honestly do best in a heavily planted tank (something you cant do with cichlids) dedicated to them. A group of 5 would be perfectly happy together in a quiet tank.

Adding angels is not going to work, not if you want healthy angels.

Other cichlids are far too aggressive to be with angels.

Besides, plecos are bad with angels also.
