  • What does petsmart do with fish that are returned?

I bought an Oscar fish from petsmart and I have had him for a few months and he's being beat up by the other fish in the tank so I'm trying to find him a new home. I was wondering if I take him back to petsmart if he will be given even the slightest chance or if he will just be killed or let die if I take him back. Educated answers only please don't just guess.

  • Super timid Oscar?

So I just got an Oscar and added him to my 110g with my jack Dempsey and jewel cichlid. The Oscar was getting the crap kicked out of it so I moved her to my 29g with my old Betta who's just living out his days before I can find someone responsible to adopt the Oscar (if I take her to a store they'll just let her die) and sure enough the Betta is kicking the crap out of the Oscar. Is this normal? The Oscar shows no sign of illness other than having minor cuts on her body and rips in her fins now.

  • Fish ok in power outage?

We are having a massive power outage due to a snowstorm (Saskatchewan eh) and I'm worried about my cichlid tank temperature dropping too low? I keep the temp at 79 and it's a 75g so the temperature would take a while to drop too low but will my fish be ok if the temperature drops to room temp? It's pretty chilly inside and the power may stay out for a couple days. Is there anything I can do? We don't have a generator and my heater isn't battery powered.

  • Jack Dempsey showing early aggression to Oscar should I bother adding them?

I'm acclimating my Oscar into my 110g that currently has my female jack Dempsey in it. The jack is circling the bag and nipping at the bag and then retreating doing this almost constantly. They are about the same size at 3 and a half inches. The Oscar is a little smaller. Should I not bother adding the Oscar? I took care to pick out the least aggressive they had.

  • Aggression between tiger barbs?

My 6 tiger barbs in my 75g recently went down to 5 and now 4 barbs. They keep killing each other. The most recent one they killed they ate the fins tail and face off of. How can I stop this? I can't separate them and there isn't enough room in my tank for more than 6.

  • Jewel cichlid not red?

I've had my jewel for about 3 months and he/she changes colours soooo much. Everyday it's different colour combinations but she is never the bright red like most jewel cichlids. She hasn't grown at all since ive had her so I'm assuming she's at her max size but she's only about 3inches long. Her colours always stay closer to orange or brown with blue or purple sparkles depending on the day. Will she ever turn bright red or is this just her colour?

  • Adding dechlorinator right to tank after water changes?

I've always filled a separate bucket with water, dechlorinated it, and then adding it to my tank but that's proving to be too much hassle with my 125g. I was wondering if it's safe to add water straight from the tap (I have one of those aqueon water changer things) and then dechlorinate after? I do two 20g changes a week. Also, would I dose for the whole tank or simply for the water being changed? (Using prime)

  • Dried blood around new daith piercing?

I just got my daith pierced and have notice some crusty blood around it. It's only a few days old and doesn't hurt at all. I clean it twice daily like the piercer told me. Should I be worried about the blood? It's not green or ***** and doesn't smell bad or anything.

  • Perm on bleached hair?

I have LONG (past my butt) bleach blonde hair. I have been to 2 different hair stylists asking for a perm. One (the one I went to for a while) turned me down before she even saw my hair. The second agreed to do a strand test and said that many stylists might turn me down simply because my hair is so long. The ends of my hair (bottom 5" probably) have been dyed blonde twice. Everything else only once as my roots grew out. I also have 4" of my natural hair growing out which is light blonde but not bleached. It s been growing for 5 months. I want to get my hair permed so bad and I m willing to lose a little length for it.

When the strand test was done on the end my hair turned to mush but the girl said she could still do the perm since the rest of my hair is so healthy and the dead part would simply go to mush and be washed out. If I lost even 10" I wouldn t be that mad. Should I risk it or wait a few more years for my hair to grow out more?

  • How to know if Pleco is getting enough food?

I have an albino bristle nose Pleco in a 75g tank along with a jack Dempsey, jewel cichlid and 6 albino tiger barbs. He used to live in my 29g that was always covered in algae and he was growing quickly so I switched him to my 75 and he spends most of his time hiding around the rocks and is rarely on the glass like he was in the 29. The lights aren't as good in this tank and I haven't noticed any algae whatsoever. I used to give him veggie rounds and he would eat them quickly but my jack and jewel usually get to them before the Pleco does. Is he getting enough food? How can I get him more food without having it eaten by the other fish?

  • Just out of curiousity, what would happen if you placed a male betta fish with 5+ females?

In say a 30g tank what would happen? I'm not going to do this just curious if the aggression would be spread out enough that they could live together (like with mollies) or if if the male Betta would just be super stressed all the time.

  • Is it safe to add more than 3 fish at a time to a tank?

I have a 75g with a jack Dempsey and a jewel cichlid. I'm planning on adding some tiger barbs (10+) but I don't want to add just three for two reason. 1) they are schooling fish 2) they are more likely to get eaten by the jack if there is only three and much more likely to get eaten if they are stressed. My tank is well cycled and I'm ready to do frequent water changes while the biofilter adjusts. Can I add 10 at the same time or is it destined for failure?

  • Schooling fish to add to a 75g?

I really want to add a group of tight schooling fish into my 75g which does have a small jack Dempsey in it and a jewel cichlid. Both cichlids keep to themselves and I haven't noticed any aggression between them or with my pleco. What kind of fish could I add? I would like a large group so if they were smaller fish maybe like 10-15 perferably fish with brighter colours but main thing is surviving the jack. I heard that tiger barbs can work because they are so quick and fiesty?

  • Fish to feed a medium Oscar?

I have some small aquarium fish (platies, and mollies) and they are beginning to die from old age not sickness and they are basically just waiting for their time to come. I was wondering if it would be okay to feed them to my Oscar? I wouldn't do it till they were on their very last legs and this way their bodies will be being used not just getting tossed in the trash.

  • Angelfish with South American Cichlids?

I have a 75g tank with a young female jack Dempsey, a jewel cichlid, and a pleco. I would like to add some Angelfish and upon doing research I've found that they are South American cichlids like the JD (the jewel is African but they get along) and so I figured the angles might be able to be added? I know they like groups so how many should I add? Will they be stressed their whole lives?

  • Cichlid feeding aggression?

I recently added a Jewel cichlid in with my Jack Dempsey in my 75g tank and despite the odd behaviours of the jewel (hiding by the heater, eating bubbles from the bubble wand and then spitting them out all day long) everything has been normal but the jewel hasn't been eating. My JD eats like a pig and would eat for hours if I fed her that much. I finally got my jewel to eat but as soon as the JD saw her eating her food she went ballistic chasing the jewel till she went a hid in a cave too small for the JD. When the jewel was eating was the first time she was acting like a normal fish. After feeding jewel went back to hiding and JD left her alone. How can I fix this? If my jewel doesn't eat more soon she's probably going to die soon.

  • Fish to put in a 75g?

Got a new 75g tank ...it's cycled and I'm looking to add fish. I've always been really attracted to Jack Dempsey cichlids and I bought one and absolutely love her but I was hoping for a male and I'm finding out that it's extremely hard to find tank mates for a JD in a tank this size. I'm not going to be happy with one fish in my tank especially a female so I called my pet store and they said they would return and resell (not kill) her. So I'm looking at some other options now. Mbuna cichlids are gorgeous but I don't like how much they hide and I've always liked larger fish. Any recommendations? I have a 110g filter so that isn't an issue. I would like at least one large 'centerpiece' fish.
