Bleaching hair at home: Good or bad idea?
I've been dying my own hair for somewhere around 5 years off and on. That being said, I've always dyed my hair darker than its natural color, never lighter, so I've never worked with bleach. I would not be dying my entire head, just some pieces here and there (going for a balayage kind of thing) then going over the bleached pieces with a bright pink. I've seen a lot of mixed opinions on whether bleaching at home is a bad idea or not, but I think most of those questions are referring to dying their whole head, not just pieces, so I'm wondering if anyone with more experience has any ideas. Thanks!

It depends on what product you use and how long you leave it in. Sometimes if you use the wrong product your hair will simply turn yellow instead of fully bleached and this would make it hard to dye pink later. You want to be carefull as well not to leave bleach in your hair to long because it can really damage it. Bleaching your hair at home is fine as long as you take precaution when doing so.

its not a good idea if you never have worked with bleach before. if you want it done right you may just want to go ahead and fork over the money for a professional to do it. you dont want to risk frying your hair or making it a color you dont want it to be
