Roku, Google Chrome, Amazon Fire......others?

I'm cutting cable, and want to supplement my antenna channels. I currently subscribe to Netflix, which I access through laptop and blu-ray dvd player. I want to get more choice. Which current streaming devices are best in your opinion, and why. Also, if you purchase a device such as roku, or kindle fire, do you still have to pay monthly for any app. you watch, such as netflix, or hulu, or amazon? Thank you for any info.!

I cut cable six month ago. Was paying 200 now about 80. I have Netflix, Hulu, and Sling plus one extra $5 add on for Sling. I use Rokus on all 4 of my TVs. I have Roku 2s, 3, and stick. Note stick is weak don't get that. No many apps are free like Netflix and Hulu but you have to sign up and hAve accounts with Netflix and Hulu and then just log in. All the roku apps are free to get but some require in app purchasing. For instance I downloaded for free a hangman game app, however in order to p,at the have a one time charge like 5 bucks. Other apps are free like solitaire, crackle, tubitv etc. check out their sire. Go on antennaweb so you get a good Ota antenna. I get 45 local channels free. If you want to record those free antes channels get a Tablo. It records in HD and plats in HD. Roku has a free Tablo app too so you can watch thise ota channels live in HD or your recorded shows. The 2 tuner records 2 shows at once and they have a 4 too. No monthly fees for Tablo u less u want an upgraded guide for 5 a month. I use my cable company for my wifi so I went on their site to see what modem I could buy because renting theirs is stupid. I also bought my own wifi router. Note sling only can be used in one device at a time. Online or free roku app Pluto tv is good. On roku tubitv, crackle, Pandora, YouTube, vevo, networks , news. Roku site sells refurbished rokus. Go in deal sites like dealnews, gottadeal, slickdeaks and fatwallet daily as the list online deals and you can get yoyr modem, antenna, rokus etc all cheap if you wait and collect them on sale. Tablo owners sell used ones on Tablo community page.

Apple TV is the other main one.

Search Google.com for Cord Cutter's Guide to find articles like this one.

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2478213,00.as...

Only read recent articles (mid-2015 or newer) and try to research what channels are available on what streaming devices at what cost.

Also - you will want to try to get the over-the-air digital TV channels for ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. If you have a modern TV or a Tivo, those MAY have a digital other-the-air TV tuner built in but you will need to add the correct kind of antenna (some good ones are flat and attach to a window). If you are in a location with poor digital TV reception then you may need a roof or attic antenna.

Apple Tv beats roku, amazon fire, and chromecast combined. Get the new one, because it has an app store so you can download whatever. Also, the remote is touchpad.

If you get a streaming device, some limited services might be free but most things will require a monthly or annual subscription. Even with the Amazon Fire stick, you will need to pay for Prime and/or individually rent things in order to get access to them.
