If you can't afford it, why do you deserve as good health care as a Gates or Buffett or Clinton can receive?

Back when I was young I lived in a town with two big hospitals. One called Foote, the other was called Mercy. Now, if you had insurance? Or could pay outright? You could go to either one. If you could not afford your care? You went to Mercy. Which was a hospital ran by the Catholic Church. Your care was as good there as at Foote. In fact, doctors often had dual staff privileges. They were hired on at Foote. Then, off duty, would come to Mercy and help.

But, that was also a time when the local MD's were affordable out of pocket. Often enough would also write off your visit. If, you were just that poor.

Then government stepped in. The cost of healthcare spiraled. Mercy closed as a Catholic ran institute. Local MD's stopped taking the poor.

See, altruism was what helped keep healthcare affordable and free to the few poor. Forced altruism jacked the cost and drove out real altruism. We did once think the poor deserved good healthcare. Took direct action to assure it. Now? We leave that to the State. Banal in our indifference.

Just 'let' the government do it. Assuring only the elite can afford it and all of us depending on banal indifferent government dole out.

If you're not a Gates, Buffett or Clinton, you WON'T get as good health care as they would.

You don't. Everyone has access to health care and should pay for what he gets.

Access to good healthcare is a privilage in this country. Now get back to work you peons.

Dr. Salk was a great socialist. Had he patented his medicine you might not be walking today if you grew up poor or lower middle class.

Like me, you reject the "Healthcare is a basic human right" argument. Healthcare is the application of science and technology to alleviate suffering and help the body heal itself. It s not clean air or national security; its a service provided by one person to one person. It could also be argued that we all have the "right" to be launched into orbit by NASA - in fact that would make more sense as NASA is a govt institution.

We are Americans. We pay taxes we fight wars we deserve all she has to offer with our own tax dollars. Why should cons decide how to spend our money?

edit: So cons dont think we should have a say in where our tax dollars go? Oh!!!! Thank you so much!
