Spell Speed 2: Mystical Space Typhoon vs. Normal Traps?

I understand that mystical space typhoon does not negate effects and that effects still activate even if I activate MST in resppose. I did all the research and that is an undisputed fact but i want to understand why that is.

Say my opponent activates a normal trap card and I activate mystical space typhoon in response. The official rules say that his normal trap still resolves its effect. They are both spell speed 2 and since I chain MST to his normal trap and chains resolve backwards, shouldn't MST destroy the normal trap before the normal trap's effect resolves?

The definition of 'negation' is an effect that either completely cancels an activation, or prevents a resolution. Effects that 'only' destroy, do not do either of these, and that is the reason why MST can't stop things in the way you're asking. Once a card or effect is activated, that activated effect on the chain is almost completely independant of the card that it activated from. That means merely destroying the 'source' of the activation, won't stop the resolution of its effect.

(Apart from continuous cards. They MUST remain on the field to be able to resolve, though are not being 'negated' technically, just rendered unable to resolve)

So yes, that trap card that you chained MST to (let's say it is Sakuretsu Armor), the effect of it will still resolve just fine, even though MST did indeed destroy the physical card before resolution. The point is that destroying the card is not enough to stop the effect that's waiting to resolve on the chain, Sakuretsu Armor is not a continuous trap so the activated effect will resolve whether its card is still on the field or not.

"mystical space typhoon" only destroy spell/trap card... it DOES NOT negate effects or negate triggered effects.

although opponents used "monster reborn" and u use ur set MST to counter opponents monster reborn, the effect still runs, it just only destroy the card. That it.

Although u r Chain 2 to the "monster reborn"-(Chain 1), u only destroy but DOES NOT negate effects activation.

So no point using MST. i prefer u to use "Twin twister" to destroy opponents set spell/trap. if you want to counter opponents spell activation, i prefer u to use "magic jammer", solemn judgement, and etc related to negation of card effects activation.
