How long can my aquarium plants live?
My aquatic plants are due to arrive on friday, but my aquascapeing rocks and driftwood are not due to come until the following monday. Will they be okay in a bucket or something full of water with the light on it for a few days? or am I going to have to plant them then re-plant them once the rocks get here?

Depends - stem plants can be floated and start growing roots where more picky-er plants like Blyxa want to be in the substrate. I would suggest just getting some soil and growing them out a bit in a bucket so you have time to do your hardscape. We personally don't like rushing our hardscapes; giving them a few days to see if we like them before planting and/or DSM.

Just put/set them in the aquarium (it is set up right?). There is no need to "plant" them, but the light, heat and water movement in the aquarium will keep them healthy until you are ready to aquascape.
