Windows or drivers? What gets installed first?

When building a PC from the ground up, do you install windows first and then the drivers for the hardware, or do you install the drivers from the driver discs and then windows?

Windows, then drivers. Windows installs some drivers included with the media, then drivers need to be updated. Some drivers will automatically be updated by Windows Update.

Drives, and usb ports, all need drivers to operate. The bios loads a couple of these then the boot sector of whatever booting device loads some basic universal drivers. You use those to install the OS, the OS or Windows Update will install most drivers, then after the OS installation generally Windows will tell you if you have a device that it could not install or find a tested and approved driver.

When I built my computer I installed the OS first, it will run without the drivers. Then install all of your necessary drivers. You need to do this because sometimes the drivers you get with your parts are outdated and you need to download them from the companies website. Can't do that without an OS haha
