Whats the purpose of weave? And why cant African American women do without it like back in the 90's?

1.) Weave is a protective style. While those with inherently straight hair do not require it, black hair especially does. Black hair THRIVES on low manipulation, and those with weave -- be it a kinky sew in, bow braids, or a wavy wig, it lets the afro tresses take a break from manipulation, like frequent moisturizing and styling. Often times, many black women who frequently utilize weave CORRECTLY (that means they don't rely on it, they don't over do it, they take care of their hair while its in weave) have longer and HEALTHIER hair.
2.) It gives refreshing styles. For black women who crave a change in their hair but don't want to do any drastic changes, weave is an EXCELLENT option. Some would like platinum blonde hair or blue highlights but don't want to deal with the damage. Some would like to try straight hair but don't want to flat iron and deal with heat damage. Some would like to try a bob but don't want to cut their hair. Weave solves all these problems. I could have short hair tomorrow, blue hair in two months, etc.
