What hardware should I take out of my old laptop?

I'm taking apart my old laptop that stopped functioning due to some hardware issues. I'm going to install the hhd into a box to use as an external but what else should I salvage? I was thinking maybe the graphics card but anything else? I'm not particularly tech savy and I've never done anything like this before but I'm having fun with it :) suggestions?

Also...should I decide to go the route of a Mac (shudders but might be my best option), is ANY of this stuff going to be useful?

no use in recuperating the GPU from a laptop unless you have a similar laptop... other models won't take it (different shapes, not standardized like with desktops).

You could salvage your RAM and power supply on top of the HDD, all the rest is good for the bin as it won't fit on any other laptop. Well... perhaps if you really like to collect junk, you could also recover the fan... but like i said "junk". Better buy a new fan when you need it.

Best to just sell the whole thing except the HDD as a spares or repair job.
