Employed or Self Employed?
I'll try and keep this brief. The question being on the basis of my Tax Return. Here goes....
I work on behalf of someone (self employed). The person i work with gets paid by the job from the large corporate firm also being self employed. I get paid a day rate by the person i work for/with. This all sparks off from when someone i know used to work for the guy I'm working for/with now and he always used to ask for invoices. He never asks for invoices from me now even though he used to be really strict with the other guys that worked with him on invoices.
I had a set time from the guy i work with to start work. Have a lunch break. He tells me what to do. Surly if i was self employed i could do what i want with starting work, etc. This brings me to the question am i actually employed or simply self employed. I get paid at the end of the week by the guy. It's exactly the same process from an employed background which i have done plenty of in the past.
Some advice would be greatly welcome.
Thanks!

Sounds like the person you work for is defrauding the tax man by pretending you are self employed, if you are working for this employer on a weekly basis and only for him, not sending him invoices then you are employed by him and that is how HMRC will look at it.

If you have agreed to work for cash or agreed to work outside the official employed position then you are Self Employed and MUST register for Self Assessment.
Call HMRC to find out what your record shows - but if you agreed to this then you are needing to register.

Call HMRC. They'll be interested to talk to your "employer". There are so many laws being broken here it's beyond listing.
