how to make a copy of a photograph from a large photograph?

I have a family portrait, size is 11x14. It is the only one I have. There are no negatives. I want to make a few copies, size 8x10. I took it to places like walgreens, walmart, etc to have it scanned to make copies from it, but the portrait is too large to fit their scanners. There was one place, can t remember where, that the photo DID scan ok, but the resolution was not good coming from such a large size to a smaller size. People have told me to take a picture of the portrait and have that copied. I have tried, but it s either too blurry, too much light, etc. I don t have access to a GOOD camera to use. I do have written permission from the portrait company to copy it. Does anyone know how I can get 8x10 copies made of this 11x14 photograph? thanks so much!!

Update:

I forgot to add that the company that took this portrait is now out of business, so they can't make more.

A high-quality image can be made of two scans. You can scan once and then scan the remaining portion.

Using free software such as gimp (gimp.org) you can easily combine the two images together. The processing of these two images into one should take less than about 1-2 minutes. Then export the image as a JPEG. Take that jpeg to walmart, walgreens, or even costco, and they'll be able to print an 8x10 for you.

Or, you will need to find a good quality lab that has an 11x14 flatbed scanner. To find such a lab, call a local photo studio and ask for suggestions.

You need a pro lab for this. Forget places like Walmart.

Taking a photo of the photo will NOT give you good results unless you have not only a proper camera, but also experience with set up, angle, lighting, and color control.

Chromatics in Nashville, Tn can scan up to 48 x 72 inches and make excellent 8 x 10 inch prints for you.

I highly suggest you use their services:

Unless you have a release from the photographer, scanning it and making a copy yourself is copyright infringement and you could get into a lot of trouble.
