Yes and I sometimes have referred to this concept before when talking to fighters and MMA types as well as when coaching and training fighters in the past. Zanshin or "awareness" goes hand-in-hand with the "empty mind" approach and that concept I think better helps someone to understand all this.

Take a fighter who is over reacting or reacting to soon and thus is reacting incorrectly to his opponent's actions and intentions. Doing that excessively is not good and will get that fighter hurt or knocked out more quickly. When a fighter exhibits this trait then his coach tells him to calm down and relax more. By doing that then that fighter is more disposed to react correctly rather than incorrectly. So by being more aware but yet not predisposed then it only becomes a matter of his fighter then reacting quickly enough. Otherwise his reaction and ability to counter should or always will be correct.

This concept goes together with some other ideas and mental aspects of fighting also and is one of the things that separate a well trained, experienced fighter from an amateur one.
