Are you speaking about doing your tax return? If so, then it depends on how you are entering your education expenses. If you are entering them as income, then you could end up owing money because you are increasing the amount of income subject to tax. Education expenses are not income, so you shouldn't be entering them that way. However, they can be used to claim certain credits that can reduce the amount of tax you owe and this can result in a refund. Since we're not sure what you're entering and where, it would be best to consult a professional tax preparer, or to at least use reputable tax software, such a TurboTax, which will guide though how to enter educational expenses.

You don't add loans as income. Student loans are not income. You need to ask someone for help filing your taxes if you don't understand how to properly fill out the forms. Do not just guess!
