Whats your stance on the plus/minus stat?

Useful to determine a player's impact on a team? Nonsense?

I am interested to hear the illustrious Yahoo Answers Basketball section's opinion on this.

    Which Plus/Minus?

Box Plus/Minus is a useful stat for determining which line ups were effective in a very specific game

Real Plus/Minus is an advanced stat made by ESPN designed to calculate a player's impact on a per possession basis, and it's reasonably effective. They seem to bias the individual offensive and defensive stats by position (overrating guards as a whole on offense and centers as a whole on defense for instance), but as a whole, the stat seems like a good approximation of which players are most effective.
