Looking for a family activity for a mother and son (aged 15) to do once a week. Cost is a factor.?

Family went through major tragedy recently. Looking for something fun to do once a week.

Son is keen to try but we haven't found the right thing yet.

He's not interested in trying:

Judo, karate, tai chi, tai Kwan do

Photography

Art

Cost is a factor due to the tragedy funds are very tight

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone!

If you're into the outdoors at all, hiking is a great experience because you can have conversations while you walk, and you can either hike together or join a group (we have a local hiking group that meets a couple times a week for a hike on various trails, so your area may have something like that, too).

How about volunteering? Animal shelters, soup kitchens, charity shops....there are many options out there depending on your interests. And it can be fun AND rewarding.

Your local libraries may loan out board games or movies for a "movie night." You can also check your local government webpages, bulletin boards around town, or newspaper ads for fun community organizations on a variety of subjects. Many times, these events are free or very low cost, especially if you end up becoming members.

Consider what interests you may have in common, perhaps something neither of you have tried before but thought sounded interesting. You might try each coming up with a list of possibilities and then compare the lists.
