I filed my tax return as single independent tax payer while I should have filed as a dependent single. Should I fix it and how?

Get with the person that can claim you and call the IRS together with a speaker phone. How to best proceed depends on if the other person has already filed or not, if they claimed you, your income level, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Just tossing a 1040x into the mail may make things even more screwed up.

    Amendment, form 1040x

You must fix it. You have to "amend" (change) it by filing Form 1040X.

look up the tax codes and see how it can affect you; I bet the dif is less than $10. IF taxes are owed.
