    Let Sue be X

    x + 2x= 69

    3x = 69

    x= 69/3 = 23

    Sue is 23 and and Jacob is 69-23= 46

    Jacob's age is 2s

    s + 2s = 69

    3s = 69

    s = 23

    Sue's age = 23

    Jacob's age = 2*23 = 46

    Check

    23 + 46 = 69

    It checks.

       2S + S = 69   ...   substituted eq.1
