i can't find my vagina...?

my school requires us to swim in pe for a quarter and i don't know how to use a tampon. i don't even know where my vagina is and when i think i've found it, it doesn't feel good when i try to stick my finger in it. i've tried to find it in the shower and i've tried multiple times, but i just can't seem to find it because there are too many creases and dents. today i think i might have found it, but it kinda hurt when i tried to put a finger in. like i only put it in a centimeter or two and it was just too... tight. i dislike the feeling of anything being in that area or maybe i'm just uncomfortable with it. i only have a month less before i have to swim so can anyone give me any advice? why i can't seem to find it? why does it hurt? why am i uncomfortable with anything in that area?

Forget about using tampons or other internal menstrual products (hint: cups are a far better option) for now.

Remember too that if you can't use tampons, sponges, menstrual cups, softcups, etc. you don't have to swim - you can sit out of swim class, there is no way that the school cannot force you to swim when you're menstruating.

You need to spend some time really getting to know your vulva and your vagina, it's really important you learn these basics and this is really something that should have happened before now - if you've not gotten to know your genitals before now and feel uncomfortable with anything being down there it's likely you've picked-up negative messages about menstruation somewhere along the lines so these issues are something you need to unpack.

Try looking at your vulva in a mirror with a good light and look at photos online to help you identify what is what down below (see the links below), your vaginal opening should be easy to locate and certainly during menstruation it's where blood comes out so may be easier to find then. When it comes to vaginal insertion remember the vaginal canal is a muscular tube so if you're tense it will tense causing the vaginal walls to clench together, make sure you're relaxed and take a deep breath, practice relaxing vaginal muscles, also try masturbation prior to attempting vaginal insertion as when aroused the vagina relaxes as well as lubricates and opens. Remember you're in control so no need to be nervous about it, and listen to your body: as soon as you start to feel pain stop.
