How can I stop binge eating while still being on a diet?

I have binge eating disorder, and I ve been told that in order to get rid of it you need to stop dieting. But I feel that my diet isn t extreme. I eat around 1500 calories a day and I m also vegan. I m severely overweight, that s why I m dieting. 260 pound 14 year old female...so yeah. I just need to know what I should do. There isn t anything emotional about it, the binging has just become a habit. The need to eat just takes over my brain, it s so weird.I m not depriving myself of any nutrients, I eat all the carbs I need and I get all my vitamins.

I'm sorry that your weight is a stressor for you. Fatphobia is a real and huge thing to have to experience, but the solution is not to try to get skinny. Dieting is connected to a ton of health risks, especially for adolescents like you. You probably really do need to just stop.

If you have binging inclinations, something probably IS wrong with your diet. My partner couldn't stay vegan, and neither could I. It turns out that fats are really important, and for quite a few people, fats and proteins from animal sources are really something of a necessity. All over the internet you can find stories of people who resumed eating animal foods and could literally feel the difference right away. That was true for my partner and it has been true for me. I understand wanting to protect animals from cruelty, but putting your entire health at risk isn't a solution.

Long story short: you need to just eat, and fats will probably be a good bit of it. Take care of yourself and good luck.

When you are trying to stop a bad habit there should be a replacement. Something else you default to in order to try and break the cycle.

If you're under the care of a therapist they may be able to make suggestions. Like making notes for yourself around the house to remind you to do something else if you're not actually hungry. Not a punishment, but something else you would enjoy doing so picking up the new and improved habit will be easier. Dancing, taking a relaxing bath, painting your nails, reading a book, going for a walk with your dog etc.
