Service company, Technicians wasting time?

I run a service department and we run about 12 trucks, so in the peak season we have about 20 technicians working every day.

The problem I constantly run into is getting tons of questions from them every morning about their jobs, or them taking too long to get their stuff and get out of the shop to their jobs. What can I do to give them the desire to get to their jobs faster?

We have created an online scheduling system where they can look at all of their jobs on an Ipad and see every previous job we have done at someone house yet they still ask me stupid questions they could probably see themselves. Its very stressful to do all of my work and still waste an hour every day getting them everything they need. What more can we do to motivate them to get their stuff quickly and get to the job?

maybe you know technology and they don't. You call them technicians but what exactly do they do? Maybe it's not a technology type of job, maybe some don't have computers, maybe some find computers difficult, it could be an age type thing or a nationality type of thing.

In years past motivators were things like yearly increases (by 25 cents an hour), vacation time off after being there a year, 5 sick days, family picnics, investment by way of stock in the company or a 401K wherein you'd match what they put in, 2 breaks and a 1/2 hour lunch, etc. You need a motivational boss for them.

Take some time to figure out any trends on the types of questions they keep asking, and have a meeting with the techs to get their input on what might help them get out the door more quickly. You know, treat them like adults who have reasons for what they do and are committed to their jobs. Do not voice your opinion to them that they are asking stupid questions or wasting time.

You could motivate them with incentives for decreasing the time it takes to get to the job. Monetary is fast and effective and take charge of the department
