If our genes have 4 BASES, how is DNA Deoxyribonucleic ACID?

    The bases themselves are, in fact, basic. They do have higher than neutral PH. However, this is offset by the fact that they're very WEAK bases, and they're bound to a phosphate group, which acts as phosphoric acid (a relatively strong ACID). As such, the entire DNA molecule has a decidedly low PH.

    De- = remove

    oxy = oxygen

    DNA is called deoxy- because it has the sugar deoxyribose, instead of the sugar ribose, which is found in RNA.
