Venomous snake vs. non-venomous?
Are Red tail Boas exceptions to the rules? Because every diagram I look at that shows the general description of a venomous snake shows the none round eyes the pit and the single row scales...now my boa has all of that except the pit unless I just haven't noticed it. OBVIOUSLY boss are not venomous so why do they have most of the "markers" or was I just looking at shitty diagrams(I saw a few)

Some non venomous snakes have heat pits and some don't. Some venomous snakes have them Some don't. Like Dion said you have to just know the difference, head shape doesn't mean anything. Pupils don't either.

Disregard the "rules" of distinguishing venomous from non-venomous, because there really is only one rule that applies- the ability to produce venom.
The only sure way to differentiate venomous snakes is to identify the species.

The shape of a Boas head isn't the same as a vipers as vipers have venom glands on the sides of the head which are very pronounces. Besides the lack of these the big difference between Vipers is that they do not constrict their prey as Boas do.

The round pupil is characteristic of diurnal snakes. The elliptical pupil is characteristic of nocturnal and crepuscular ones. Venom has nothing to do with it.
