I've been doing ballet for 11 years but I'm just not enjoying it as much. Do I quit or keep going? Ideas for motivation etc appreciated x?
I don't plan on doing ballet for a career, I just go for "fun". However, recently I haven't been finding it fun as I'm on a semi-professional level and it's really hard. I can't seem to find the motivation to keep going. It's really good exercise though, and the idea of life without ballet seems really weird. I kinda wanna quit and focus on other things, but part of me thinks I should keep at it. Any tips on gaining motivation and ideas about what I could do much appreciated.

Don't keep at it just for the sake of keeping at it - life's too short to stay in something you don't enjoy, especially if that time and energy could rather be spent on something your truly love, that makes you feel alive and that you're passionate about. You deserve to have that in your life! I would suggest that you start dancing less hours/on a less serious level and see how you feel with it. Even just a two or three 75 minute classes a week will be good exercise, and you can add in other things that you enjoy, like swimming, Zumba, Pilates, or even try something fun and new and different, like a Jazz or Latin dance class (trust me, now those get your heart pumping like petit allegro!).
Just make sure of your decision. You don't have to leave ballet completely, but you also don't have to do it for hours each day if you're not on a professional track. Just remember that sometimes we hit a plateau in our training...maybe you feel like you're not improving or progressing much, and that feels frustrating and is making it hard to stay motivated. If this is the case...think about why you started. Remember the feeling you get when you dance, that has motivated you to keep at it this long. If that doesn't excite you, don't force yourself to keep going, rather find your true passion :)

I think you should keep going! Ballet is a beautiful dance that not many people can do. It takes tremendous dedication and talent to be a ballet dancer. If i knew ballet, i would not give it up!

You may need to move to a new dance studio. Try out a new teacher. Add in a modern class
